Terraria Tips (Skip Night, Souls of Night, Rain)

The night and day in Terraria is the rising and setting of the sun and moon, which affects the world and most of its characters. I understand that whether you can skip the night in Terraria is a matter of concern that requires your attention.

So, can you skip a night in Terraria? Skipping night in Terraria is possible with the 1.3 version of the game. All you will do is set the time at 4:30 a.m. With this item, you can also create a new Angler quest.

Like in the real world, many dangers revolve around a player during the night. These include monsters and zombies that new and inexperienced players may not handle at night, which is why most players would want to skip the night in Terraria.

With the 1.3 Terraria version, you can skip a night in the game. All you will need to do is set the time at 4:30. Setting the time will also create an Angler quest for you. The 1.3 version is the enchanted sundial, with which you can advance the time to the sunrise of the following day. This item also features a seven-day cooldown period, such that when you use it, you will have to wait until seven in-game days or two hours and forty-eight minutes real time-lapse.

Generally, the Enchanted Sundial does not turn the time immediately to the next day. Rather, it forwards it, making it pass faster than usual. Depending on your console, you can obtain the Enchanted Sundial from different sources.

For example, desktop, console, and mobile versions can get it from Mythril, fished pearlwood, and Titanium Crates. On the other hand, Switch and tModLoader versions can get it from Wooden, Golden Crates, and Iron during Hardmode.

Unlike real life, the timing in Terraria is different, with the night being shorter than day. In Terraria, nighttime begins at 7:30 p.m. and lasts for nine hours, equivalent to nine minutes of gameplay, after which the sun rises at 4:30 a.m. A minute of the in-game is the equivalent of one second in the real world.

Thus, a Terraria day lasts for 15 real-world minutes while night lasts for nine minutes. To tell the time in Terraria, you will need to equip yourself in an accessory slot or hold an inventory. This way, a clock will pop up on the upper right corner of your screen and reveal your in-game time.

Terraria features a 24 hour day and night cycle. This cycle affects its world appearance, monsters, monster and NPC behavior, Dayblooms and Moonglows blooming, among other elements. As stated earlier, daytime is generally safer than night in Terraria.

This is so since the spawn rate of monsters is higher during nighttime than during the day. Most of these monsters are more dangerous than those which spawn in the daytime. For instance, monsters like the Demon Eye, Zombie, Possessed Armor, and Gastropod will spawn only at night.

When daylight comes, they flee and despawn. Thus, players, especially new players, should consider exploring the surface during the day to stay safe. Taking risks at night might result in unprecedented attacks from the above enemies.

In addition to the time factor, the monster spawning at night accelerates due to changes in certain elements. For instance, every night features an 11.1% chance of a Blood Moon. This is a special event in which monsters spawn frequently and can be very dangerous to new and unprepared players.

The night also features Fallen Stars, which fall from the sky, and a player can collect them if they hit a solid surface. In unfortunate cases, a star can fall on a mob and cause great damage. If a player manages to smash one or more Pulsating hearts, each night will start presenting rare chances for Meteorite Spawning.

Where Do You Get Souls of Night in Terraria?

When you are ready to craft items, the Soul of Night is one of your required materials. I will help you know where and how to get souls of night in Terraria.

Generally, enemies will drop Soul of night in corruption caverns and underground crimson from where you can access them. These enemies drop the Soul of night after the death of the wall of flesh. It is important to note that any enemy, besides those summoned by Meter Heads and statues, killed in the vicinity of two hundred Ebonstone and Crimstone blocks can drop souls of night. Thus, a Corrupt or Crimson enemy cannot drop souls of night until they are within 200 plus Crimstone or Ebonstone blocks.

There is a 20% chance of the enemies dropping Soul of night in these areas. These chances increase to 36% in the Expert Difficulty. The Hematic Crates and Defiled Crates also have 50 percent chances of dropping up to five Souls of Night, and you should watch them out when farming for Souls of Night.

The Soul does not burn in lava but will remain at the monster’s death place. As the layer goes down the stone layer, the souls will begin to drop. However, regardless of the depth, the chances of souls dropping will remain the same.

Farming for Soul of night will require some exploration, which will take time, requiring you to exercise patience. Thus, to shift your attention on the time spent, play the game normally as you scour the underground crimson and corruption caverns, and you will get adequate souls of night without noticing the time lapsing.

To farm a soul of night on Terraria, you will place at least two hundred or more blocks of crimson or ebonite in hell next to a stone layer. This way, the souls will drop courtesy of the distortion and hellish monsters. These monsters will also include all that fell into the block range. Players should exercise caution when doing this, since, in the Hardmode, the blocks may start spreading.

Alternatively, if you are in the underground biome, you can spawn the Eater of World boss using worm food, and a soul will drop from each of its segments. The advantage is that this boss may feature several body parts, all of which have a chance of dropping a Soul of night. Thus, an Eater of Worlds will drop up to ten souls every time, making it an effective tactic. Also, Worm food is easy to make, and killing the Eater of Worlds boss is easy in Hardmode.

Lastly, the Ebonstones provide a more efficient farming method for these souls in dungeons. All you will do is place 200 of these stones in the target dungeon, and all the dungeon mobs near it will end up dropping souls. While you may wonder why you should undergo the above hassle for souls of night, you can craft keys, accessories, and weapons with this item.

These items include cursed flames, cool whip, golden shower, demon wings, mechanical skull, logic sensor, Soul of night in a bottle, and Dao of Paw, among others. You will need at least 102 Souls of Night to craft one of the above items.

Can You Make it Rain in Terraria?

Rain in Terraria occurs randomly, and its effects are seen on all surface biomes. The rain usually spreads through the day and night, and its impact will be on the surface. Therefore, can you make it rain in Terraria?

You can make it rain in Terraria using several options, including using the rain command. This command turns the rain on and off the server. Also, when you kill a ladybug on PC or Mobile in the 1.4 version, there will likely be a downpour in the next 30 seconds.

Luck in Terraria can influence many activities in Terraria. The good news is that you can utilize some objects of luck for such influences. This is given that the luck stat is invisible, and you can only increase it using special items.

Even then, you cannot tell by how much your luck increases. The only person that can hint towards your luck increase is a wizard. Hence, if you have one in your company, you can chat with them for such revelations.

The ladybug is one of the items you can use to improve your luck in Terraria. Killing a ladybug may cause bad luck lasting for three minutes and increase to six if the bug is golden. Fortunately, if you want it to rain, killing a ladybug will increase rain chances.

Beds in Terraria are furniture items that players can sleep on, making time to pass up to five times faster. The effect of beds on time reduces the time a player has to wait for a downpour in the game, such that they will not have to use the rain command or rely on luck.

To activate the bed, a player will press the Open/Activate command, which will cause them to lie down and sleep, indicated by closed eyes. With this active command, an hour of the game that would normally take one real time minute will take only twelve seconds.

This, in turn, affects the sun, moon, watch, and background animations. The shortened span also means shorter nights, and a player who was supposed to wait for five days before it rains will get the rains sooner.

While the bed and sleep can affect time and the rains, it is worth noting that you cannot sleep during events such as solar eclipse, blood moons, and lunar events. Also, as long as the Enchanted Sundial is actively advancing time, you cannot sleep. If you are playing in multiplayer mode, the time acceleration feature will require all players to fall asleep.

In Terraria, there is an 18.2 percent chance of rain occurring, and it will remain for at least two minutes. If it rains and snows at the same time, the snow animation will stop, but the rain animation will continue to run.

As earlier stated, the rain effects will be aesthetic, implying surface effects. Thus, you will see blizzard graphics and darkened sun and moon. The rains in Terraria will not produce new water tiles nor will they increase the water levels.

However, it will cause unique enemies to spawn and some critters to behave differently. Among the ridiculous effects of the rain include zombies in raincoats, goldfish walking upright on land, with the swimming goldfish leaving the waters, walking and spawning on land, and slimes shielding themselves with umbrellas. Usually, walking goldfish are common when the rain coincides with a blood moon as these goldfish turn into Corrupt Goldfish.

Rain in Terraria will feature different variations depending on the version you use. The rains will be light, regular, or heavy for desktop, console, mobile, switch, and tModLoader versions. Heavy rains will dim the sunlight and cause noticeable darkness. Even then, these variations are graphical and detectable through a weather radio. Also, they may change severally throughout the downpour.

Other rain effects include waterleaf blooms, worms spawning, and increased fishing power. Also, during the rains, NPCs will remain in-house, and the player character squints in blizzards. The rains may also interrupt the solar eclipse given the extra enemies that spawn, making other enemies from such events rare.

Wrap Up

Skipping night in Terraria offers additional security to new and inexperienced players who may not skillfully combat their enemies. With the 1.3 Terraria version, you can skip a night in the game by setting the time at 4:30. This version is the enchanted sundial, with which you can advance the time to the daytime of the following day.

If you want to craft items in Terraria, you will need Soul of night. You can obtain this item from your enemies who drop them in corruption caverns and underground crimson. These drops occur after the death of the wall of flesh.

Lastly, since rains are quite rare in Terraria, you can cause them to fall using the rain command by turning them on in the server. Alternatively, you can rely on luck and kill a ladybug on PC or Mobile version 1.4. Finally, you can choose to wait on your bed and sleep. Sleeping in version 1.4 will speed up time, and the rains will fall sooner than expected.
