XenApp 7.8 includes the new XenApp Secure Browser Edition, with the following specifications.
IT departments can select the best web browser for each web or SaaS application to securely deliver the application to the user’s browser on their device.
High Definition eXperience allows for better graphical definitions, including using a wider range of peripherals and optimization capabilities on high latency networks.
Citrix X1 Mouse
Able to use a mouse with Apple iPad and iPhone devices with Windows apps and Desktops accessed using Citrix Receiver.
HDX 3D Pro
Remote office workers can utilize graphically intense 3D applications securely and safely using HDX 3D Pro technology.
HDX Virtual Display Technologies
Increased visual performance using Framehawk and Thinwire technologies including over wireless and low bandwidth, high latency network connections.
HDX User Experience Templates
Policy templates to fine tune the user environment especially in graphics performance.
For intensive graphics, such as 3D, the XenServer video card sharing (vGPU) allows NVIDIA drivers to enhance the virtual application and desktop experience.
Published applications can be set to pre-launch, so when a user connects, the application is launched automatically in the background, so when the user themselves launch the published application, they appear almost instantaneously.
After a user closes an application, the application session remains open or a time period, thereby launching almost instantaneously should the user open the application again, without requiring the user to logon again.
Users can be provisioned to log on without being authenticated using the anonymous logon feature.
Citrix HDX technology detects the available bandwidth and latency of connections to intelligently adjust the communication between XenApp and XenDesktop, to maintain a quality user experience.
Any device access
There are a multitude of Citrix clients available for desktops, laptops, tablets and smartphones, allowing these devices to connect to XenApp and XenDesktop and be able to access published applications and desktops.
Enterprise App Store
StoreFront provides users with self-service selection of applications and desktops they are authorised to use.
Clientless HTML 5 Receiver
Users can connect using devices which have a HTML 5 compatible browser, instead of needing the full Citrix Receiver client installed.
Universal Printing Services
Universal Printing Services (UPS) provides a centralized printing service with optimised printing performance without the need for specific printing drivers on XenApp or XenDesktop systems.
Centrally secured applications
Applications interaction is provided by Citrix clients, allowing the applications to remain installed in the data centre and not on the end user devices.
Access to XenApp and XenDesktop reduces the exposure of the corporate network to external user access, providing higher levels of security, through only sending screen updates across connections in response to mouse clicks and keystrokes.
Two Factor Authentication
NetScaler provides Two Factor Authentication requiring users to enter a user name, password and a shared secret using a third party service such as Symantec 2FA, Aladdin SafeWord, RSA SecurID or other RADIUS services. This shared secret can usually be displayed commonly using a token keyring device or a application running on a smartphone.
Accelerated Logon for Smart Card Users
Allows faster access to applications for Smart Card Users by improving logon times.
By using NetScaler and it’s ICA Proxy service, users can connect securely without the need to set up a full on VPN service.
Support for Risk-Based Authentication
The Citrix Receiver provides presentation of multi-factor authentication (such as RADIUS) by interfacing with systems such as NetScaler which can connect to multi-factor authentication systems.
ShareFile integrates with virtual apps and desktops to provide secure data sharing areas and syncing. ShareFile Integration is available separately.
Simpler Deployment and Management
Management and deployment of XenApp and XenDesktop is carried out using a unified console, Citrix Studio. Previous versions such as XenApp 6.5 used a different console to XenDesktop.
Powerful monitoring using EdgeSight to report on trend analysis, reports and alerts.
Improved Connection Resilience
Connection Leasing allows Citrix XenDesktop and XenApp to carry on working even when there is no database connectivity. Allowing controllers to use a cache of commonly used applications to still be served to users.
Microsoft Azure integration
Workloads from XenApp and XenDesktop can be provisioning into the Microsoft Azure cloud platform, to provide Hybrid Cloud capability.
Amazon Web Services integration
Citrix Studio allows integration with AWS, to allow provisioning of desktop and application workloads.
Citrix Studio allows integration with CloudPlatform, to allow provisioning of desktop and application workloads.
Machine Creation Services
Allows the automated creation of virtual machines from master images to speed up deployment.
Integrated Profile Management
The User Profile Manager (UPM) can be used to virtualise the active XenApp and XenDesktop sessions, leading to faster logons/logoffs and optimised profile sizes.
XenApp and XenDesktop can scale to enterprise levels of users.
Allows virtual applications and desktops to be deployed to Citrix XenServer, Microsoft Hyper-V and VMware vSphere as well as cloud platforms.
Microsoft Hyper-V integration
XenDesktop Virtual Machines can be deployed to Microsoft Hyper-V environments from XenDesktop/XenApp management tools.
Citrix XenServer integration
XenDesktop Virtual Machines can be deployed to Citrix XenServer environments from XenDesktop/XenApp management tools.
VMware vSphere integration
XenDesktop and XenApp Virtual Machines can be deployed to VMware vSphere environments from XenDesktop/XenApp management tools.
NetScaler load balancing
Optionally NetScaler can be used to manage to load balance components in a XenDesktop system providing higher availability, so if XenApp software components stop functioning, NetScaler load balancing can redirect to a working component.
Citrix LifeCycle Management – Deploy edition
Automated deployment of XenApp and XenDesktop infrastructure and workloads using Citrix verified blueprints.
Secure Browser Deployment Kit
Automated deployment and configuration of XenApp to publish web or SaaS applications via a Citrix Lifecycle Management XenApp Secure Browser Blueprint.
