iPhone (Use Android or Samsung Charger, iPhone 13)

Upgrading your devices from time to time ensures convenient use of technology to meet your needs. Switching from Android devices to Apple’s iPhone is expensive, not to mention Apple’s non-inclusion of chargers in its recent releases. As such, you may want to know whether your Samsung charger can come in handy.

So, can you use a Samsung charger for the iPhone? You can use your Samsung charger to charge your iPhone. This is possible with newer Samsung versions using a USB-C power supply. You require a corresponding charging cable to connect your iPhone to your Samsung charger to speed up the charging.

Given the brand reputation, using a Samsung charger for your iPhone is generally safe.  However, you will need to adjust the connection to ensure successful charging.

Apple’s iPhone is a premium device, and there are lots of uncertainties from users over their charging. A common concern is whether you can use a reputable non-Apple charger for this device. This debate is becoming hot with Apple’s non-inclusion of power adapters in its latest releases.

You can use a Samsung charger for your iPhone, given that the chargers use USB Power Delivery, a fast-charging power standard. The USB-PD standard uses the USB-C port on one of the charger ends.

Both Apple and Samsung own this standard making its implementation possible by an interested party. However, you may notice significant slowness with this interchange, and it is advisable always to use the original iPhone charger.

Samsung uses an advanced Power Delivery version called Power Delivery 3 with the Programmable Power Supply, making it usable with the iPhone. In addition, Samsung has two USB-PD chargers in the market, namely the 25-watt that comes with Galaxy Note 10 and above and the 45w, which you can buy separately. The 25-watt adapter will function similar to Apple’s 20-watt charger in all its uses, except that it will deliver more power to your iPhone.

The 45-watt charger, on the other hand, supports 15 and 20-volt profiles with additional PPS, hence a suitable charger for iPhone. Such benefits make users pick Samsung chargers over Apple’s chargers, given the budget implications between the two.

While you can charge your iPhone with a Samsung charger, the process is not straightforward. This is because Apple’s proprietary connection is unique to itself.  This feature continues to tie most iPhone users to Apple brands to date.

According to Apple, third-party manufacturers should support the USB power Delivery if they want to advertise their compatibility with Apple devices. Hence, you can insert an appropriate cable on your USB-C charger and charge your iPhone. You can also charge older iPhone models with your Samsung charger, only that the charging will not be as fast as when you use a USB-PD charger.

Using a Samsung charger with your iPhone will not harm your device since Samsung is rated to work perfectly with iPhone. Also, modern smartphones feature the ability to regulate the power they draw from the chargers to protect the battery from overheating. As such, you can safely use your Samsung charger without overheating or blow-up risks.

Fast charging is a concern to most users, given that no one wants to wait for hours only to find their iPhone’s battery halfway full. Apple still adapts the USB-PD standard for fast charging with their iPhones supporting a maximum of 18W power input through USB PD adapters.

The company even launched its 18w USB-C adapter that you can use with the original Apple USB-C to lightning cable to plug your iPhone into the fast charger. Hence, if you want to charge your iPhone with a Samsung Adaptive Fast Charger, you can do so, but since your charger will be supplying 10w in this case, you expect a slower charging speed.

Apple’s move not to include chargers was received with controversy but, at the same time, offered other retailers an opportunity to provide third-party chargers.  However, as you source alternatives to charge your iPhone, you should be careful as not all chargers and cables feature good long-term use standards.

Third-party manufacturers continue to create their accessories and sell them at a lower price than the original, certified accessories, thanks to the market available for them. These chargers and cables may cause accidents due to overheating that will not be repairable under warranty. Hence, you should stick to Apple’s original chargers, given their ability to regulate voltage and current, a useful feature in protecting your device.

While third-party chargers may work on your iPhone, they may end up overheating your device’s chip affecting your iPhone’s charging system, which could be expensive to repair. Worse off, you may need to replace your device altogether in extreme cases.

Can I Use a Samsung Charger on an iPhone 13?

The latest iPhone models, including the iPhone 13, do not ship with a power adapter. Hence, if you switch from Samsung to iPhone or do not have an Apple charger lying idle in your home, it may cause a dilemma whether to invest in an Apple charger or use your Samsung charger.

You can use a Samsung charger on an iPhone 13 as long as it is USB-C. Newer Samsung models feature the USB C adapters, usable with iPhones. For effective charging, use the USB-C Lightning cable that comes with your iPhone 13, as the cable on your Samsung will not be compatible with your iPhone.

Before discussing how you can use your Samsung charger on your iPhone 13, it is worth understanding the iPhone 13 charging package. The iPhone 13 will come with a USB-C Lightning cable.

Hence, if you do not currently own an Apple power adapter, you will have to buy a USB-C adapter to charge your iPhone 13. According to Apple, excluding the power adapter in this package reduces its size, enabling them to ship up to 70% more devices in a pallet, hence more profits.

Smaller packages also enable Apple to reduce its annual carbon emissions by up to 2million metric tons. However, if you do not own a charger, you can purchase it from any Apple Store as a separate accessory.

With the above said, how then can you charge your iPhone 13? Apple is yet to transition fully to USB-C, which significantly improves the charging speed. In the meantime, you can use a Lightning cable with a traditional USB-A adapter to charge your iPhone 13.  Alternatively, use the USB-C to lightning cable to charge your iPhone with a USB-C adapter.

Depending on your Samsung adapter wattage, you will have varying charging speeds. However, your iPhone power input will remain the same whether you use a higher wattage adapter.

According to Apple, you should use its 18w or 20w USB-C charger, but you can use a higher wattage adapter. However, using higher wattage adapters is unnecessary as it will not speed up the charging beyond Apple’s standards for the iPhone’s input.

Fast charging your iPhone 13 will require a Lightning USB-C cable. The older USB -A Lightning cables lack support for fast charging. Hence, with a 20-watt adapter and Lightning USB-C cable, your speed can increase by 50% in half an hour, charging your device fully in just two hours.

Generally, wired charging is more efficient than wireless. However, if you lack a charger for your iPhone, switch to MagSafe wireless charging. This technology is feasible in iPhone 12 and iPhone 13.

The MagSafe technology features convenience and ease of use. Your iPhone 13 has a series of magnets on its back that work with chargers and cases. MagSafe accessories align with these magnets for a secure attachment at the back of your iPhone for charging.

With the MagSafe charger, you will not need to plug in the Lightning cable to charge iPhone 13. Instead, place your iPhone on top of the MagSafe charger, and the process will start instantly.

MagSafe charging uses similar Qi wireless charging supported by iPhones, but its magnets ensure a perfect alignment each time. This way, you can continue using your iPhone as your charge, something that was not possible with older wireless charger models. The actual power that your iPhone receives from your MagSafe charger will vary based on the wattage of the system conditions and adapter wattage.

Ideally, you should plug into a power source before placing your iPhone on the MagSafe charger. This enables MagSafe to verify the safety of power delivery. However, if you place your iPhone on the MagSafe charger before connecting to a power socket, remove your iPhone from the charger, wait for about three seconds, and repeat the process, starting with the adapter.

Can an Android Charger Be Used for the iPhone?

Charging your iPhone seems like a straightforward process, but you should note that how you charge your device will impact its battery life in the long term. Some third-party chargers will damage your iPhone, while those that are compatible will not. Read on to see whether you can charge your iPhone using an Android charger, given that the latest iPhones do not come with chargers, and how to go about this process.

You can use your Android charger for your iPhone. One of the ways to achieve this is by buying a compatible adapter that allows you to use it with your iPhone. Secondly, you can use a USB cable with a lightning connector on one of the ends and a USB on the other. Alternatively, use a dock with a lightning connector.

Before looking at how you can charge your iPhone with an Android charger, it is worth understanding that you require a charging cable and power adapter to charge your iPhone. Over the years, Apple has used charging cables with a Lightning connector on the end that goes to your iPhone and USB-C or USB-A on the other end.

You will also require a power adapter to charge your iPhone, newer iPhones feature cables with USB-C or USB-A connectors, and their adapters must equally have a USB-C or USB-A port.

With the above said, it is evident that charging your iPhone with an Android charger is impossible without any adjustments. This is because iPhones come with Lightning ports and their cables have a Lightning connector on one of the ends.

On the other hand, Android phones do not have Lightning ports, making it impossible to use the same charging cable on your iPhone. However, if you have a Lightning cable, you can connect it to your Android adapter for charging.

Even then, you should check that your power adapter has USB-C or USB A port depending on the model. You should also note that while Android adapters feature higher wattages, using a high wattage adapter with your iPhone will not speed up the charging.

This is given that Apple designs iPhones to intake certain wattage limits. However, using a low-wattage adapter will slow down charging, taking hours before your battery is full.

While it is possible to charge your iPhone using an Android charger, the best charging solution is to use Apple cables and adapters. The use of third-party cables can cause technical issues that your warranty may not cover.

Worse off, some of these chargers can affect your battery capacity in the long run. If you cannot afford an Apple cable or adapter, consider reputable companies as they too have the correct wireless standards and cables that will not damage your device.

You should avoid non-branded chargers and accessories by all means, as in most cases, they lack protection. If your iPhone gets damaged from using such accessories, you cannot claim a warranty.

Wrap Up

In an effort to conserve the environment and increase global shipping, Apple removed adapters in its newest releases. A move that was not applauded by many. If you are an Apple loyal, this move may not affect you as much, but if you are switching from Android to Apple, you may rethink your decision, given the cost implications of buying a new charger.

Luckily, you can use your Android charger on your iPhone. This will be possible using a USB C adapter and a lightning cable.

When using third-party adapters for your iPhone, consider reputable companies like Samsung, whose USB standard matches Apple’s. This way, you will save yourself from damages such as overheating that results from using cheap, non-branded accessories.

Finally, even if you use a higher wattage android adapter with your iPhone, the charging speed will remain the same given Apple’s power intake limitations.
